I'm here to make sure you become irresistible to recruiters and hiring managers. In an extremely competitive marketplace, I can show you how to take back control of the job search, become a stand-out candidate and ultimately land you your dream career. Oh, and I promise to make the process fun. Yes, fun.

I'm Jena

When I first launched my side hustle and then my business full-time, I was so motivated. Every day was like, “YES COME AT ME. I CAN HANDLE EVERYTHING.”

Until well, I couldn’t.

The burnout came on me real quick and I knew I needed to change something. I wasn’t utilizing my time well, I was working ’til all hours of the night, unable to keep up with the demand (good problem to have, I know) and I was mentally drained all the time. Any creative projects I was planning were put on hold because I’ve felt less-than inspired.

But when you’re a one-woman show, you don’t have time NOT to be productive.

So in an effort to hack my life and get more done in less time, I altered some things in my schedule that increased my productivity tenfold this week:

1) I’m eating like a CHAMP

Okay so it’s partially because I have the best health coach out there, and she’s helped me through this process. But I KNEW that me being crazed in my business was keeping me from actually completing anything. Brain fog and low energy and a slight case of insomnia (which if you know me, is VERY unlike me!). I wasn’t feeling so hot. But I also wasn’t eating so hot. I wasn’t fueling my body with any brain food, but rather popcorn and wine for dinner (hey, I was just trying to channel my inner Olivia Pope), overloading on caffeine which was making me anxious and skipping meals left and right. This week I put my health first: fueling up on yummy plants and grains, skipping the alcohol and caffeine and drinking loads of water. My supplement routine has also been helping. And you know what? I’ve felt more productive than I’ve felt in months.

Food matters.

2) I’m doing the hardest thing first

So y’all know how much I love helping people with their careers. And as much as I love my job, there are still things that aren’t my favorite to do. Like writing resumes. It sucks up a lot of my energy, but it’s a service that I know I can provide immense value and my clients trust me to provide something stellar. Before, I was waiting until the end of the day to start writing them after I’d addressed more “revenue-generating” activities. But I was SO burned out (my energy slump is from 3-5) that it was taking me FOREVER to write one resume. And I often have 3 to revamp a day.

So I started waking up at 5/530ishAM to just crank through them. And not only are they better quality, I was able cut down on the time it took to complete them. I would say I cut it down to about half the time, if not more. This is a BIG DEAL Y’ALL. So by 9AM, I have been ready to start my day and have so much “free time” to actually work on revenue-generating activities. (Like writing my new Career Changer course πŸ™‚ )

3) I’m ending my day early

So because I’m starting my day wicked early, I’m also ending my day earlier. My prime working hours are 5AM – 1ish where I get the bulk of my creative work done. From there, I’ll have lunch and then work on projects associated with my business that are less focused, less creative and take less brain power on my part. I’m also running errands, journaling and reflecting in the afternoon work session. It gives me a break so that around 4/5ish I can have a short sprint to end the work day.

Before, I was “working” until 7 or 8, but wasn’t really being productive during that time. And I was getting SO frustrated. Now, with this new structure, I’m able to capitalize on my energy throughout the day instead of struggling through it. I feel more balanced and am reminded of why I actually signed up to run my own business: FREEDOM.

4) I enrolled in this Trello course to streamline MY LIFE

Okay, so I talked about these chicas in my last side hustle post, but I love Think Creative Collective. I’ve looked into taking a variety of their courses and finally took the plunge and purchased their Trello for Business. In this course (which is only $29 by the way!) I got access to the boards they use to streamline and map their business. Honestly, the best $29 bucks I’ve spent all year. Immediately I had a structure, plan and peace of mind that I was moving in the right direction. Plus, some of their boards gave me ideas for some future collaborations, courses and projects I have up my sleeve. If you are a side hustler and you’re struggling with structuring your day, you absolutely need to purchase this course to streamline your business….and life.
